The Department of Conservation have created a ‘Predator Free 2050 Practical Guide to Trapping’. It was made in order to support people’s valuable work with protecting New Zealand’s unique and highly vulnerable native species.
The guide give access to DOC’s best trapping techniques for rats, mustelids and possums. This includes technical advice on a range of different trapping subjects. It includes all the information you need to start your own trapping program. It teaches how to identify target predators, how its behaviour could affect trapping, what baits and traps to use and how and where to place your trap network.
It also goes over the importance of pre and post predator monitoring, describing how to monitor outcomes and results.
