Sensor Troubleshooting

First step to working out why you might be having trouble with a sensor is to check the sensor’s status page on the iot.nz website.

You can access this by using the QR code on the sensor, or by entering the sensor number into the URL https://iot.nz/status/[sensor ID] e.g: https://iot.nz/status/1262

1 shows the ID number that is displayed on the outside of the sensor box.

2 shows the status of the sensor which will show whether the trap is set or sprung

3 shows the last time that a valid message from the sensor was received.

If you are seeing that you have last heard from the sensor a long time ago this could mean that the sensor doesn’t have a signal and therefore the sensor will not show if there has been any sign of activity. The reason that it may not have signal could be because there is no Gateway near to where the sensor is placed, the sensors need LoRaWAN gateway coverage and not cell coverage (can see this here  https://ttnmapper.org/radar/ just go to your area) . If this is the case we would recommend purchasing a gateway and get it put in place near you or the nearest township.

You are able to purchase gateways here https://wheronet-iot.co.nz/product-category/gateways/

You can purchase a gateway that is solar powered with mobile coverage which is the more expensive option. Or you can purchase a gateway that can be installed on a property that has power and internet, this is the cheaper option.
